Scuba diving in the Balearic Islands . . .
The Balearics offer warm, clear water diving only 2 hours flying time from the UK in (relatively) cheap resorts. There are numerous dive operations on the islands of Menorca, Majorca and Ibiza but it is worth conducting some research before departing to ensure that the dive operator you select will meet your requirements.
Diving is available all year round but winter can be unpredictable.
Although the islands have a reputation as being the night club capitals of Europe, there are more peaceful spots. Again, early research before departure will help to select an appropriate resort and accommodation.
Menorca (Minorca)
Menorca is the second largest of the islands but the least overrun with tourists. Most diving is from boats with cavern diving being particularly popular. The island also offers wrecks as well as a wide range of sealife including barracuda, grouper, moray eels, rays and the occasional dolphin.
Mallorca (Majorca)
Largest of the islands, hosting up to 5 million tourists a year. There is a marine reserve around Sa Dragonera, an islet on the western tip of the island, which offers spectacular diving with other sites offering wrecks and caverns.
Ibiza
Best known for its clubbing scene and nudist beaches, Ibiza also boasts good diving opportunities Sights at the Cala d'Hort marine reserve, established 2 years ago near San Antonio in the west of the island, include a forest of gorgonia and an underwater pinnacle that attracts diverse fishlife. One dive operator now runs a liveaboard around the island.
Formentera
Formentera is a very small island with no airport. There are no train lines or highways connecting the island with neighbouring Ibiza, so the only way to reach the island is to take a ferry from Ibiza. It is known for its many pristine beaches and the fact that nude sunbathing is allowed on most of its beaches.

We stayed with Sylva and Pepe over 10 days at the end of April 2013.
The dive centre went to fetch us at the airport late at night and brought to our flats. On the next day we had a brunch with Pepe (the owner) to meet up.
Even if the...

We were among the first customers at the dive centre this year and although the conditions were cold and the weather not the best for diving we enjoyed it. The marine life was almost non-existent as you now expect from much of the Med but the swim-throughs and caves were...

Went diving with Salgar in September.
One of the best set ups I've been to,a short walk to the boat and although only did a days diving it seemed to have a lot of choice.
Normally do liveaboards and use own kit but this was a last minute dive so hired kit...
