Montenegro is located in Southeastern Europe. It borders Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast and Albania to the southeast.  Still can't place it?  Here's the map. 

The coastal region enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.  The capital, Podgorica, on the central plain is the hottest spot in the country, with mid-summer temperatures averaging 81°F (27°C).  The northern mountains are much cooler and snow-covered throughout the winter.

Compare that to the High karst mountain area where the climate is sub-alpine with cold snowy winters and moderate summers. Winter maximum temperatures are around 3ºC and minimums around -6ºC . In the summer months it goes from 23ºC to 9ºC .

The Montenegrin sea coast has steep limestone cliffs with many small caverns.  Underwater cliffs are rich in flora, fauna, corals and other colonies and visibility is from 15 to 35m.

Two WW1 submarine wrecks:

• The UC-24 - while cruising on May 24, 1917, off the Cattaro entrance, it was torpedoed and sunk by the French submarine Circé. 24 of the crew died. 
• The U-72 - a German mine laying submarine, which on November 1, 1918, was scuttled at Cattaro during the German evacuation.
