Although The Netherlands might not be the first destination that springs to mind when you plan a dive, you might want to consider trying to dive here if you don’t mind a bit of cold murky water and you enjoy the more technical aspects of scuba diving.  You can dive in rivers, lakes and seas. Diving in The Netherlands is very different from diving in tropical waters as scuba diving here is much more focussed on technical diving. Although there are no colourful little reef fish around, there are lots of less spectacular but still very interesting marine species to be found under water.

The best place to go for an ordinary dive is in the southern province of Zeeland. There are many different dive sites there, but you need to be aware of currents and tides and very low visibility.

Scharendijke is a popular location, but quite murky. There is a small wreck at 5/6 metres and you can see a reasonable amount of marine life, such as sea stars, North Sea crabs, eels, shrimps, cold water anemones, jellyfish, swim-crabs, velvet swim-crabs and quantities of lobsters.
