Taba is very much a man made holiday resort but is a great place to base yourself for travelling into the Sinai desert, visiting Bedouin camps and scuba diving the unspoilt coastline.
Previously part of Israel, Taba is located at the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea.
One of Taba's main attractions, Pharaoh’s Island, is simply amazing. A small island, surrounded by the clear, blue and turquoise waters of the Red Sea, it was once a Phoenician port, later occupied by Crusaders and then taken under control by Sultan Salah El Din. The castle remains intact. The reef around the island is popular with both snorkellers and divers.
Although the diving isn't as dramatic as Sharm el Sheikh’s walls or Marsa Alam’s offshore reefs, the coast here offer some very rare marine life and its still relatively uncrowded. Typical to the area, for example, is a rare species of frogfish, and many species of seahorses, hardly found anywhere else in the Red Sea, making a diving holiday in Taba a unique one.

All staff were friendly and helpful. The instructors were highly experienced and knowledgeable about the local area. The equipment was well managed and the dive boats were clean and maintained to a high standard.
Overall a great experience that I would repeat again.
And the diving's not too shabby either :)
