Tropical reefs, shipwrecks, kelp forests, legendary caves and some of the best cold water scuba diving in the world . . .
North America, home to the beautiful tropical reefs of Hawaii and Florida, amazing shipwrecks in Ontario, North Carolina, and the North East, incredible kelp forests in California and the Pacific Northwest, and even the Giant Octopus and Orcas of British Columbia.
As for the USA, the unexpected cold ocean off the California coast with it's spectacular kelp. Also, have a look at the national wildlife refuge at Midway Atoll now open to the public after 50 years and for wreck lovers, there is world class wreck diving in North Carolina.
Canada is dry suit country. If you can take the cold water, the rewards include an incredible array of filter feeders and marine life that you'll never dive with in warm waters. Vancouver Island, is a remarkable wilderness destination, both on land and in the water. You'll find anything from eagles to orcas, sea lions to bears, while diving with a remarkable range of animals such as sea lions, seals, wolf eels and giant Pacific octopuses. Scuba diving is controlled by the enormous tides that dictate when and where the water is moving, so choosing an experience operator is important.
Mexico offers a lot of different kind of diving. Most divers and tourists alike are familiar with the legendary Cozumel. But there is also great diving in Playa del Carmen with both ocean and cave diving in the world renowned Cenote system. For world class liveaboard diving, go to the Socorros Islands in the Pacific off Baja California. Here you will find whales in March.
