The province of Ontario is located in the east/central part of Canada bordering on Quebec to the east and Manitoba to the west. The national capital is situated in Ottawa, but the most populated city in Canada is Toronto. Ontario is also home to the Great Lakes – Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake St Clair, which also form part of the border of the United States.
The most notable thing about diving in Ontario is that you will be diving in cold fresh water, which is a good thing if you are interested in wrecks, because they do not deteriorate as quickly as they do in salt water, which corrodes metal rapidly. Therefore, there are wrecks from the 1800’s that are still in good shape.
For hundreds of years the Great Lakes have been used for transporting goods throughout North America and still do to this day. The Lakes are recognised and have a reputation for rapidly generating violent storms that can manifest themselves at a far greater speed than in the worlds’ oceans. There are restrictions on the size of boat that can traverse the waterways and because of this the lakes are littered with wrecks of smaller boats
