Micronesia (Federated States of)

An underwater photographer's dream diving destination . . .amazing visibility and diversity . . .
Overview:

The Federated States of Micronesia are spread across 2,500 kilometers of the Western Central Pacific Ocean, just north of the equator, the four states of Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap and their 607 islands (only 65 are inhabited) invite fun, exploration, excitement and relaxation.

The State of Micronesia has attracted divers from virtually every corner of the world. Clean, clear waters mean excellent visibility. And the waters are rich with marine life. The diving in the islands is truly spectacular. There are opportunities for every level of diving experience as there many sites to choose from.

You can dive in Chuuk (formerly Truk) Lagoon which is virtually an underwater museum with an entire Japanese fleet resting on the floor, explore Pohnpei with it's unspoiled coral reefs or go to Yap for the legendary Manta Ray dive in M'il channel. Not to forget Kosrae which has over 50 dive sites to choose from.

The water temperature is around 81F degrees (28 C degrees) all year round. It is warm enough to wear just a thermo Skin, or 3mm neoprene suit. The visibility often exceeds 150 feet (50 meters) and can top 200 feet. Where there are currents visibility varies from 30 feet (10 meters) up to 100 feet (30 meters) with the average being about 50 to 60 feet.

Cheap and cheerful, but not that cheap  Blue Lagoon Dive Shop, Chuuk (Truk) 3 Star Rating Added: 26th January 2011 by Rhone_Man
I stayed at the Blue Lagoon Resort for a couple of days before boarding a trip on the Odyssey, and (along with other divers in a similar position) took the chance to do some diving with BLDS before we got onto the liveaboard. The operation is a little bit "rustic". Almost...
Simply the best liveaboard in the world  Odyssey, Chuuk (Truk) 5 Star Rating Added: 26th January 2011 by Rhone_Man
Let's get something out the way first - the diving in Truk Lagoon is spectacular. You know that. I know that. So I won't waste time here gushing about the quality of the diving. It was the quality of the Odyssey that was a real shock to me. Liveaboards have a...

The surrounds of the resort are beautiful, and the rooms are comfortable. The location is quiet. We went for the diving (of course) and this was run very well from the dive shop. The menu in the restaurant is a little small, but if you wanted to be fine dined...

Simply the best liveaboard trip you'll ever do! The boat is great, the crew is phenomenal, and the wrecks are amazing.
Perfectly Fine Accomodations In Every Way  Blue Lagoon Dive Shop, Chuuk (Truk) 5 Star Rating Added: 29th July 2009 by RJP
Stayed at the Blue Lagoon Resort for three days prior to a two week trip on the Truk Odyssey and then again for a day afterward. After reading various reviews here and elsewhere I knew it was going to be better than the Truk Stop but I had very low...
Great diving experience with Kosrae Village Ecolodge & Sleeping Lady Divers  Sleeping Lady Divers - Kosrae Village Ecolodge , Kosrae 5 Star Rating Added: 25th July 2009 by gzeimer
I took two dives with the friendly folks at Kosrae Village Ecolodge after eating at their restaurant a day earlier. Katrina Adams and her husband Bruce are extremely nice folks who built this amazingly cool ecolodge resort with their own hands starting in 1995. They were super helpful with the gear,...
The resort and the divemaster couldn't have been better!  Kosrae Nautilus Resort , Kosrae 5 Star Rating Added: 25th July 2009 by gzeimer
I flew to Kosrae last month for a quick vacation. Doug Beitz and his staff couldn't have been more accommodating! They picked up my luggage at the airport and delivered it to the hotel while i went sightseeing. They treated me like royalty the entire stay -- in the restaurant...
