Experience on Mona Lisa
Visit Date: December 2010
We just completed 7 days diving cruise on Mona Lisa for Komodo Islands diving cruise. The Komodo park is great, with its impressive dragons and astonishing corals, yet quite a few strong currents. However, I can recommend to everybody who looks just for the nature and not so much for comfort. The ship Mona Lisa looks much better on pictures than in reality and it is not running up to standards I have seen on similarly priced trips. Sometimes there was not even enough food, once they fed up only with dry pasta.... The cabins are ok, but the common areas are a bit shabby and dusty, neglected. We were 12 divers aboard, and they announced that only one divemaster will go with us. Fortunately, all divers were experienced, but still it was not nice - in places with strong currents one cannot expect 12 people to get down together, so we always lost somebody (and the unfortunate person was carried away some time through the deep blue usually before deciding to ascend after just 10 min of the dive...). The divemaster was unable to show really anything interesting to the crowd (actually, he was not keen on it anyway). To be fair, the crew was nice and friendly, though the chef has to learn a lot - he cooked the same dishes nearly every day. Although one expects to have nice fruits and juices once in tropical are, the only soft drinks available on the ship were Coca Cola and Sprite one had to pay for. So - in conclusion diving nice, but the treatment of guest far from what one expects.
