DANGEROUS PRACTICES
Visit Date: July 2011
This is not a safe dive shop. Every dive trip that we had with Ecologic Divers included an unnecessary mishap that put divers at risk of injury and death. On one dive, the dive master did a rear entry right onto the head of another diver that was not clear of the boat. That diver had to go to shore for medical attention. On another dive, the crew turned off the air (thinking that they were turning it on) to a female diver before she entered the water.
On another trip, they pushed the boat too hard through rough seas and injured a diver on the deck. The worst and most dangerous thing they did was during a trip to the Blue Hole on their open boat, when rather than turning back, they decided to continue through heavy seas and drive directly into a massive thunder storm. About half way into the trip to the Blue Hole they drove the boat into a black wall of driving rain and lightning which lasted for about an hour. It was so scary that most of the divers started putting on their wetsuits in case they ended up in the water.
When we finally dove the Blue Hole I found that the depth gauge provide by the shop did not work past 80 feet. Good thing I had a dive computer or that would have terminated my dive. If you value your health and safety then I would suggest doing your research and finding a more safety oriented dive shop in Belize, which is what we ultimately did.
We found Amigos Del Mar, which has bigger boats, more staff and a much more experienced operation. It might be important to note, that the owners of Ecologic, Easton & Sue Beymer, are retirees from Boulder City, Nevada who do not even live in Belize full time (see Ecologic’s website) which could explain why the shop did not meet my expectations for safe diving practices.

Professional Outfit with Style, Excellent Instructores
Visit Date: April 2010
We had our young daughters do their certification dives and the instructors were excellent. Also, the divemaster really made you feel comfortable, and they knew the environment. We found Ecologic very respectful of the reefs and aquatic life (unlike other dive shops we saw). Plus, they have style. With the plentiful water, refreshing hot towels after each dive and the fruit during surface intervals, they were a pleasure to dive with while still being completely professional and safety conscious. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the pictures taken by the divemaster during our dives were posted on Picassa (http://picasaweb.google.com/ecologicdivers) and available for us to download, which was a really special treat. We would absolutely recommend them if you are planning to dive on Ambergis Caye.

Excellent!
Visit Date: January 2010
My hubby and I used this dive shop for our open water certification, based on reviews from this site. We we not disappointed. I am still a nervous diver but my husband is more comfortable. They made me feel very safe, very taken care of, and were vary patient with all my questions.
Junior is an amazing instructor. Hands down. He walked us through all our dives at the shop in great detail, we went over them briefly on the boat before entering the water, and we debriefed after the dives.
We were so happy with them that we decided to continue diving with them another three days.
Marcos was our DM. He was excellent. He knew that I was still nervous so he gave me extra help. He keeps everything safe and really, really fun. He set up dives based on what kind of sea life we wanted to see (turtles, sharks, etc). Marcos, the captain and the guy handling the equipment all worked really well together as a team. Hot towels (it was cold weather) and water were always available. Our gear was washed after each dive. It was waiting for us on the boat when we returned the next day.
Marcos took pictures and we were able to get them on the internet just a few days after we got home.

Great Dive Shop...Great Dive Masters
Visit Date: February 2010
On my first day in San Pedro I took a refresher dive with Ecologic as I had not dived since receiving my certification in Cozumel some 3 years ago. On the dive, Junior was my DM and we went to Hol Chan. Junior was very thorough and made sure that I knew the basics, such as regulator retrieval and sharing, mask clearance etc. This we did in the shallows before descending to 40 feet. There were only 2 of us whilst my wife and another lady snorkeled with Marcos. Later we snorkeled at Shark Ray Alley and my wife said she very much enjoyed her time with Marcos. Over the next couple of days, I did 4 dives with Marcos as my DM and he is the best at spotting critters under rocks and in the sand. More importantly, he is very good at keeping track and ensuring the safety of his divers, although there were usually only 3 of us, but 5 on one occasion. Marcos is very personable, funny and thorough with his briefings. The equipment is well maintained, although not new and everything is done for you prior to and after diving, such as bottle changes, helping you get your equipment out of the water etc. and then, warm towels as we came back on board.
I would highly recommend Ecologic and would use them again in a heartbeat!!

Visit Date: December 2009
This past Christmas holiday I dove with Ecologic Divers and was extremely unimpressed. We were staying at Paradise Villas a short walk away and thought it would be the easiest to dive with. We were wrong. They were understaffed as we had 9 divers to 1 dive master and in a small boat. The Dive Master Russel tried to do a good job BUT there were too many people to deal with and we had to abort our dive after 22 min. On the second Day, we went out out on their big boat with too many people again. It took forever to get everyone in the water, and again the dive was cut short.
I went to the desk to complain that I felt this was not right. but all they could say is they just bought the shop a few months ago.
It seemed to me the owner did not really care, all he cared about how many people he could get on the boats.
The following day we went to another shop Amigo del Mar and had a wonderful experience.
I would not recommend Eco Divers to anyone.
P.S. We never got the pictures they promised us. They were to post them on line, and as of today they have not!!!!!!
Management Response from Ecologic Divers:
Dear canuk diver , I am sorry you did not have a great time with us, but as you know you can't please all the people all the time.
