Dive Centre name: Fantasy Island Beach Resort
from 9 reviews
Fantasy Island Beach Resort - Dive & Marina was built specifically to accommodate the needs of traveling divers. The convenient dive center features dockage for a fleet of six custom 42 foot dive boats directly adjacent to the spacious guest gear storage area, underwater photo center, compressors and equipment rental facility. The famed south shore dive sites are but minutes away.
For those who prefer to dive from shore at their own place, day or night, a unique dive Gazebo places a mysterious shipwreck, a sunken airplane a beautifull shallow reef and dramatic wall diving just a giant stride away.
Water conditions: Expect water temperatures in the low 80F in summer and high 70F in winter. Although visibility can peak at 100 feet or more, expect an average of 80 feet, unless when storms or plankton cloud the water.

Great Dive Trip
Visit Date: May 2010
We just got back from 2 weeks at Fantasy Island. What a great trip. Diving was spectacular and Dive masters informitive and alert. The food was good and varied. Rooms were clean and well maintained. We had no problems except lack of water 1 day while they were doing repairs. This is a divers resort and I can not say enough

Fantasy Island-Too Pricey for What You Get
Visit Date: December 2009
My husband & I wanted to go on a dive trip over New Year's 12/27/09-1/3/10. Looked at a few hotels and settled on Fantasy Island. We saw adds for it in Sport Diver and heard that it had just gone through a renovation.
Well, would I suggest this resort to my friends, no. Perhaps if I paid hostel prices, I wouldn't complain. To start things off, make sure you get a RENOVATED ROOM! When we checked in we asked for a renovated room. We were handed a key and told to check it out. Obviously they gave us an old room. The bed visually sloped to one side, bathroom counter was ply-wood, mold on wall, cob-webs, and one scarey shower. Their website pics are not what you get. We stayed there 1 night. After pestering the staff, we received a renovated room. We were satisfied with this room. Marble tile, fresher paint, lights in the bathroom, and warm water. We were happy.
Diving was the highlight of the trip. Definitely get the dive package. We dove 5 days and logged 15 dives. You're placed on one boat for the entire week along with other divers. This sets up a great opportunity to get to know the other divers! Our boat had great people and we would eat lunch, dinner, and hang out at night too. After each dive you dock and take a short break. A full cooler of fruit each day helps too. The dives are very laid back and so are the dive masters. They lead each dive, but are don't get uptite if you lag behind.
If you aren't a diver, I believe you would get extremely bored here. The beach is plagued by sand fleas. You could tell if someone had been there a few days by the number of bites on their back and legs:) Remember to bring some Deep Woods OFF or DEET. There are no planned activities during the day.
Food was ok. You could always find something that would satisfy your hunger pains. Always fresh food. Didn't hear of anyone getting sick from it. On New Year's they splurged and had champagne and lobster tails! This brings me to the all-inclusive drinks. The all-inclusive list includes: 2 beer types, red and white wine, vodka, rum, tequila, and creme-de-menthe. You then have coke products and 4 juices to pick from. You have to pay for everything else, you can't even get a daquiri or pina colada for free.
Overall, the service was below par. The friendliest people were the onsite general manager and Eddie, the concierge(only cuz he makes tons of money from the patrons). The hotel has a long ways to go before I return.

Great Dive
Visit Date: October 2009
For those of you who keep up with these reviews of FI you will know that most are negative at best. I've been to FI a couple of times, the latest Oct 16 - 25. If you want the luxury of a hilton, GO TO A HILTON. Fantasy Island is geared to the American Diver, and the Central American tourista, as such things are different than what most americans are use to. The food is plentiful, fresh, but basic, the rooms are old but maintainted. The staff will go out of their way to help you, if YOU meet them half way. Remember, your in their country, things are different in Honduras from the US. If you go in with an open mind, and are looking for an adventure, Fantasy Island is the place for you ! The diving is some of the best in the world, Roberto and his staff are safety focused and ready to make your diving exciting and safe. Carlos and his staff at the hotel will work with you to make your holiday as nice as the possibly can.

Beautiful setting
Visit Date: July 2009
Setting: The pictures you see on-line of the resort certainly are accurate. It is very lovely and serene.
Dive operation: The dive master and boat captain assigned to our boat for the week were both attentive and welcoming. The dive master took his job seriously of looking out for the divers. When needed he gave friendly reminders about respecting the reefs, an important component of diving I don't always witness from divemasters.
There are 3 dives a day at 9:00, about 10:30ish, and 2:30.
Most of the sites are conveniently located close to the resort. Between the two morning dives the boat goes back to the resort for the surface interval and to switch tanks. The afternoon dive allows enough time to eat lunch and relax a bit.
We had the same divemaster and boat captain the entire week. This is a system I really like because it helps to create a warm and friendly environment.
A nice touch is the boats provide cold sliced fresh fruit after dives and plenty of water.
Resort service: All staff I encountered on my stay were warm and gracious. They really made me feel like an welcome guest.
Food: Food was just okay. No one in the group went hungry. There were a variety of options and everything was plentiful. Don't miss the ice cream-it's incredible. I was told it is made right on the island.
Rooms: This was the only negative. They are not horrible, but they could certainly use some basic upgrading, i.e. fresh paint, repair of broken light fixtures, etc. A plus is all rooms have beautiful ocean views.

loved everything but the SAND FLEAS!!
Visit Date: May 2007
you dont have to have a powerful bug repellant but HAVE a bug repellant. the sand fleas are nasty and leave ugly marks but they are not super-bugs and can be kept at bay with MINIMAL efforts. otherwise, Roatan is a rain forest tropical paradise with beautiful waters and spectactular scuba diving. Fantasy Island Resort is far away from West End and the cruise ships and hustle and it could feel like we were on our own island at times. the surrounding scenery topside was beautiful and full of island monkeys, iguanas and birds. and the scuba diving was fantastic! lots of life in the water and reefs could be as shallow as 20-15 feet. we did most of our safety stops on top of the reefs and easily had over 1-hour dives with plenty of air left. The crews were friendly and the dining staff were eager to please. the food was not gourmet but we did so much diving we were almost too tired to eat much less care what it tasted like. this is a "resort" in Honduras so it will not be close to a "resort" in the US but it served us well.
No question, we will go back some day.
