AquaMarine Diving – Bali

5 Star Rating  from 49 reviews

AquaMarine Diving - Bali is Indonesia's first Project AWARE Go ECO Operator and is owned and run by Annabel Thomas, English, PADI MFAI 462621. AquaMarine is the only British owned and managed dive shop in Bali. And, the only one run by a woman, Annabel Thomas.

AquamarineDivingLogoAquaMarine is a small company and will stay that way. As Annabel says "I want to keep people as people, not as numbers.

Bali is a great place and the diving here is phenomenal - it is a shame that some people come here to dive and are put into 'The Production Line'". AquaMarine is a PADI Resort, R-6344, and is one of the few dive shops in Bali that is totally dedicated to diving.

Aquamarine does not offer dolphin watching tours or white-water rafting (although can arrange it all for guests if required). The dive shop is physically located in Kuta, an area quite popular with tourists and filled with amazing shops! However, we dive all of Bali.

Aquamarine picks up and drops off day dive tour guests at their hotel. Multi-day "dive safaris" are organized with any of a number of hotels near sites where safari guests desire to dive. AquaMarine is launching our Best of Bali Dive Safaris 2013. These Safaris have Fixed Start Dates, are guaranteed with a minimum of two divers and are for the following durations:

  • 13 days/12 nights/27 Dives/7 dive locations.
  • 8 days/7 nights/15 Dives/3 dive locations.
  • 7 days/6 nights/11 Dives/5 dive locations.

We at AquaMarine Diving – Bali created these Safaris exactly as we would wish them to be created for us if we were visiting Bali as scuba-divers. The itineraries include both shore- and boat-diving, and encompass a wide variety of dives: walls, muck, wrecks, reefs, drifts, with opportunities for macro and wide-angle photography. Nothing has been included ‘for the sake of it’.

At these sites we see fantastic hard and soft corals, great density and diversity of marinelife – from large pelagics such as Manta rays and Mola-Mola (Ocean sunfish) in season, to the tiniest juveniles and pygmy seahorses.

The pre-planned timing of dives ensures your clients will see the maximum possible with the best conditions (as far as we can predict conditions). Resorts have been chosen for ambience, location, facilities and value for money.

Impressively Well Organized

5 Star Rating

Visit Date: April 2013

Following a highly favorably recommendation from friends based on several of their dive trips arranged by AquaMarine Diving, it was logical to book our first dive trip to Bali with them. Following a wonderful tour that consisted of 11 days of diving, we immediately booked a second 14 day custom Dive Safari with them 5 months later and couldn't have asked for more enjoyable diving experiences. The entire staff at AquaMarine took care to make sure all details of both trips were just right.

Their guides are experienced and knowledgeable about the dive sites and fauna to be found at each. The vans that picked us up each morning were well maintained, punctual and amply supplied with much appreciated bottled water and large, clean towels. Their recommended hotels were extremely clean, safe, and comfortable with staffs that were cheerful and helpful. AquaMarine has proven to be impressively well organized and proficient in accommodating divers in Bali and we are looking forward to working with them in booking other Indonesian dive trips.

Aquamarine was excellent all around

5 Star Rating

Visit Date: April 2013

My trip organizer (Sarah) was very helpful and prompt. My guide(s) were very helpful, organized and as expected and hoped for very good critter spotters. My dive buddy and I started at the North end of Bali and over 11 days we dove our way down to the south end. Orchestrating all of our equipment and always on time dives was VERY important. The critter spotting was icing on the cake.

Our primary guide (Janri) allowed me to use him as a u/w photo model when I knew it would not conflict with his duties, which was an asset to me. Their a.c.ed transport vans were extremely well maintained which was a real pleasure and company Aquamarine vessels were also very well maintained comfortable and fast. Highly recommended. Cheers

Better than I could have imagined!!

5 Star Rating

Visit Date: October 2012

I can't recommend AquaMarine enough, especially to photographers.

My husband and I did 8 days of diving in 4 locations around Bali, and it was absolutely a dream trip! We'd picked mid-range hotels instead of the top-of-the-line ones, and they were still all lovely - these guys really know the area and you will be well taken care of whatever your budget! But of course, the best part was our dive guide Janri, who was with us all 8 days. Usually it was just the three of us; it's going to be hard going back to diving in groups!

Some more details from our 'dive safari':

Hotels:

1. Adi Assri in Pemuteran - very nice rooms, delicious restaurant. Short drive to Menjangan, as opposed to the Mimpi which is right by the boat landing.

2. Puri Wirata Tulamben. 8 units, and only 3 were in use when we arrived. Restaurant was AMAZING, even though we were usually the only ones up there! You walk over to the dive site and it's a bit of a walk uphill to get back 'home' so we usually took enough stuff over there for all day (you can leave things at the dive center). Would definitely stay there again.

3. Candidasa Bayside Cottages - this was the only place we wouldn't wholeheartedly recommend. Still a good deal, just a little run-down and not cared for as well as everywhere else we saw.

4. ARMA Resort, Ubud - we relaxed here for 2 nights at the end of our dive trip. If you stay here, sign up for the Golden Hour Tour with the owner. From 6am-9am he drives you around in his car and shows you the neighborhood; this was actually the highlight of Ubud for us (well, except maybe for the monkey forest)

Day 1: 2 dives at Secret Bay (excellent critter-hunting - would go again)

Day 2: Menjangan Island (beautiful reefs/walls, nicer than I expected - would do 2 days if we went again)

Day 3: Puri Jati - more muck diving, definitely worth it if you're traveling from one side of the island to the other!

Days 4-5: Tulamben, diving the wreck of the Liberty and some nearby 'muck diving' via small wooden boats. If I stayed here again I might try the Ocean View Resort, which is right at the dive site.

Day 6: Amed - nice reefs and good muck diving; would stay longer in this area next time.

Days 7-8: Nusa Penida in search of mola molas and manta rays. I probably wouldn't do this part again, as molas and mantas aren't guaranteed, and without them it's perfectly nice but nothing really special (would rather do more time in Tulamben). Still nice diving if you don't have a chance to get any further from Denpasar, and the AquaMarine boats are excellent.

What really blew my mind: at the end of the trip, they took all our dive gear back to their shop in Kuta while we went to Ubud for 2 nights. They washed it better than we ever do, hung it out to dry, and packed it neatly away in our dive bags which met us at the airport. So no dive gear soaking in the hotel tub or dripping from the balcony!

To sum up: you will love Bali, and you will LOVE diving with AquaMarine!

We enjoyed our one day diving with AMD

4 Star Rating

Visit Date: September 2012

Booking, planning and eventually making the dives @ Tulamben went all very smoothly. From the start a friendly and prompt contact with valuable information, added to that a good briefing from the always smiling and relaxed guides Jance & Janri, overall contributed to a very good (diving) experience in Bali. All leading to good memories and bringing some nice pictures and stories back home.

Tumbalen Wreck Dive

4 Star Rating

Visit Date: July 2012

Good experience with a cool group of people I was the novice in the group with only 6 dives experience beforehand enjoyed the whole experience. It would have been good to have studied the map plan of the wreck before the dive so you could relate to what part of the ship we were at but no worries a great time was had by all!
