Oman has some of the best scuba diving in the Gulf, with intact coral and plenty of big fish . . .
Overview:
Oman is a country in southwest Asia, on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the UAE on the northwest, Saudi Arabia on the west, and Yemen on the southwest. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the south and east, and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. A very pleasant country with friendly people.
Dolphins can be seen in their hundreds following tuna and you can also see whales and whale sharks depending on the season. There are many wrecks and opportunities for drift and other specialised dives.
What to see:
- Fahal Island, 3 miles offshore has some wrecks, caves and reefs
- Daymaniyat Marine Nature Reserve which is 14 miles offshore
- The 83 meter Al Munassir wreck
- Late October, the migration of tuna followed by dolphins, who put on an extraordinary acrobatic show
Need to know:
- On arrival, you buy your entry visa
- Inoculations, none required but Hepatitis A and Typhoid recommended
- Extremely hot during the summer months

Did my original PADI OD with Mr Stan Berlin, and it went well using the Intercon Hotel Pool, First few dives were good with Graham, who has moved on as of April 2012.

We diverted to Oman instead of choosing Egypt for a trip last month. Although the problems were over in Egypt, it gave us a nudge to do something a bit different.

When we saw varun sharma’s ‘inside luxury travel’ show on CNBC, we decided to change our upcoming plans for our brief twice yearly middle east layover to Muscat, Oman instead of Dubai… Our only reason to visit Muscat was to dive.
We did not stay at the Oman Dive Center but...

We went to Oman with a friend, especially for diving. Before going there, Chris answered my many e-mail questions very quickly and nicely.
Once there, everything was perfect, the divemaster respected all the rules, including sufficient time between dives, therefore giving us time to chill and snorkle.
