St Vincent & the Grenadines
St Vincent & The Grenadines - part of the Windward Islands. Their closest neighbours are Grenada, 120 km (75 miles) to the south, St. Lucia 40 km (24 miles) to the north and Barbados 160 km (100 miles) to the east. Here's the map.
St. Vincent is the largest of the more than 30 islands that comprise the nation. The Grenadines extend 72 km (45 miles) to the southwest. The major islands, north to south, are Young Island, Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union Island, Palm Island, and Petit St. Vincent.
- Canouan is a sleepy island with underwater rock formations covered in a variety sponges and soft corals.
- Mayreau literally has gardens beneath the waves and it is here that the aptly named garden eels are found swaying grass-like in the sand.
- Mustique is renowned for it's untouched corals and drift diving.
- Bequia - The sea-life ranges from Hawksbill turtles, black-tip sharks, tarpon, sea horses, basket stars, harlequin pipefish, bat fish and damsel fish.
- St Vincent - Ruggged cliffs and sheer drop offs continue underwater and create some extraordinary dive sites. Wall dives at "The Wall", along the side of "New Guinea Reef" and in the deep areas of "Anchor Reef" support some of the finest forests of black coral.
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines has a reputation for being expensive. It's true that, if you decide to stay in Mustique or one of the 5 star resorts in the Grenadines then, yes, you will find it expensive. However if you stay in Bequia, Union, or St. Vincent you can have an amazing time with limited funds.
